We are excited to announce that we will be offering three separate RSIS projects in the Kubang Rusa region of Malaysia. The Big Build project is split into two phases, the first team of students will venture to Malaysia to start the build in 2020, and six months later a second team of students will finish their work in 2021. The final project will have a special environmental focus.
July 2021 – RSIS Big Build Malaysia:
A team of 50 students will work on the first phase of building a ‘chocolate factory’ which will enable the Kubang Rusa community to generate a much needed extra 25% of income from their cocoa plantation and follow a more sustainable agricultural practice. The group will help dig foundations, lay bricks and mix the cement.
July 2021 – Malaysia Environmental Malaysia:
A team of 15/20 students will work on this special environmental project to help build a series of animal hideouts – little wooden huts blended into the landscape to enable researchers, photographers and tourists to observe the local wildlife such as deers, boars, tapirs, monkeys, elephants, hornbills, leopards, sun bears, rhinos and hundreds of bird species without disturbing them. These hideouts will also enable local land owners to offer ecotourism activities and encourage them to protect the animals and birds on their land as opposed to shooting them.
December 2021 – RSIS Big Build Malaysia:
A team of 50 students will work on the second phase of this building project and continue the work on the chocolate factory through to completion.
Participants will take it in turns to be student leaders during the project, taking responsibility for the organisation of the day, briefing their peers, giving an overview of safety and risk management and organising a student rota to help with different chores at camp. Students will be given feedback by their peers and the adult leaders, and will all receive a personal report after the trip.
All participants will:
