Students at St. Clement’s have been challenged to “redefine design” and to produce clothes that are more sustainable and environmentally conscious, while aiming to educate the school community on the environmental issues in the fashion industry. The theme also aligned well with The Kasiisi Project, the organization receiving the proceeds from ticket sales
Dubbed ‘The Kurt Hahn Sleep Out’, every year a group of Ballarat Grammar students brave the elements to learn about homelessness and experience the conditions that those less fortunate face on the street on a nightly basis.
Cadet College Hasan Abdal in Pakistan hosted a online Symposium to raise awareness of their immediate surroundings, to spur critical thinking and evolve their minds to envision eco-friendly ways to lead their lives while preserving the environment. The aim was to give students an insight into the present situation of our planet and interacting with peers from different parts of the world helped create a sense of solidarity and environmental responsibility amongst the students.
“Ubuntu” is part of the Zulu phrase “Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu” usually interpreted as “I am because you are”. In the Postcard the students wanted to describe unique aspects of the South African culture and to compare and relate them to cultural input from delegates from around the world. In this way they hoped to discover some elements of common humanity.
The vision for “The Forum on Immigration to the USA” was to raise awareness about the issue of immigration which German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called “The defining issue of our generation”.It was organized by a Nightingale Bamford Grade 11 (Junior) student, Antonia Brillembourg.It took the form of a Zoom webinar and featured three professors; experts in various aspects of US Immigration history and policy.It lasted 90 minutes and one hundred participants from fifteen RS schools took part. Participants were able to submit questions to the speakers for a response.
At Regents we recognise the impacts of climate change and the importance of respecting our environment. The Regents Eco-Committee are a group of staff, parents and students from all year groups who share a common passion: saving the environment.
The Acts of Kindness Challenge is a student led initiative at San Silvestre School in Lima, Peru. It was promoted during lockdown by the joint efforts of all of the secondary councils (ages 12 to 17) and focuses on encouraging everyone in the community to be kind.
Primary School students at Newcastle Grammar School have embarked on the year with a new mission: to ‘Choose Courage for a kinder and braver world’. The theme is being adopted across Kindergarten to Year 6, as part of the School’s ongoing Positive Education programme.
During the COVID 19 pandemic that put the world into lockdown, Markham College decided to take action in order to make a difference and “be a part of the solution” by offering MINSA (The Ministry of Health) its design expertise to make Face-shields for healthcare workers in Peru. This project was led by Mr. Jeremy Brown and the Design and MakerSpace staff who were allowed in school during the quarantine to complete the project. Students from Early Years to Upper School also assembled face-shields at home.
