Col Karaminder Singh (Retd) is the Secretary of the Society for Welfare of the Handicapped (Regd). The NGO is a pioneer in North India in the field of education for children with special needs. Ms Shikha Shah – Modi’s Start-up India vision has transformed the thinking of everyone, from people living in the cities to those living in the villages. Ms Shikha Shah is one such example in our midst today. Shikha hails from Varanasi. While many across the country are striving for sustainability and combating wastage, Shikha has found a brilliantly creative use of garbage. Shikha is on a mission to give Varanasi a completely new look. She has founded a start-up called Scrapshala in an effort to clear garbage and waste from the city and transform it into something completely new. Her unique company draws inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Start-up India’ initiatives.
