Head of School, UK
Posted: 04 February 2019
AKS Lytham is a co-educational independent school for children aged 2-18 providing high standards of teaching, outstanding pastoral care, and a wide co-curricular programme. Situated in a magnificent and historic building with a stunning aspect over the Ribble Estuary and Irish Sea, the impressive campus has also benefited from a multi-million investment programme with brand new buildings and refurbished facilities. Formed from the merger of Arnold and KEQMS in 2012, our school has over 300 years of respective heritage, establishing a strong independent school for current and future generations of young people.
Our pupils are highly motivated, hardworking, well-mannered and a pleasure to teach. Indeed, one of the most enjoyable aspects of teaching at the school – and one often commented on by new members of staff – is the happy and respectful relationship between teachers and pupils.
AKS is a full global member of Round Square with 180 schools in 50 countries. We seek to use these new relationships to expand internal educational opportunities across the curriculum. It is our aim to educate our pupils within a caring school community, guiding each individual to develop and grow into a knowledgeable and successful young adult with the skills, character and personality both to lead and to serve.

We believe that children in a fast changing world need educational leadership that is always looking to challenge and improve. AKS Lytham has a holistic vision with strong educational partnerships within our local community. As a member of Round Square International we are also building global connections with like-minded schools.
We are looking for an ambitious proven or aspiring Head with a desire to grasp this fantastic opportunity and build on the school’s strengths and reputation, whilst at the same time bringing new ideas and approaches that will generate further excitement and energy in the school; an adventurous leader who will bring out the passion in others and lead a culture of self-reflection. Important qualities will include strong communication skills, resilience and commitment to the school’s core values of academic ambition, individual pathways and success and value.
As part of United Learning we benefit from support and resources from a leading educational organisation committed to bringing out the ‘Best in Everyone’.
For more information about the role please see the attached candidate pack.
AKS Lytham Independent School is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.
Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.
As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It’s an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
