The Position
Reporting to the Director of Academics, the Learning Strategist is responsible for compiling diagnostic information from students, assessing these findings, programming for support and communicating these strategies to teachers. Other duties will include reviewing skills and abilities of students who may be ‘at-risk’ as determined by the Director of Academics, teachers and EC staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicates and reports to the Director of Academics
- Supports students to learn strategies that will strengthen their abilities to retrieve, store
and recall information in all subject areas - Manages the support of students (determined in conjunction with the Director of
Academics), providing one-on-one or small group support - Maintains complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and
progress for reporting to parents and faculty - Creates, implements and manages the process of individualized education plans (IEPs)
- In conjunction with the School Counsellor, determines essential programming for students
with IEPs - Supports students and faculty in the classroom by implementing individualized strategies
for learning - Establishes and maintains a series of lessons promoting the development of Executive
Functioning Skills - Provides a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student
responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies - Adapts curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction to meet
the needs of individual students and subgroups of students - Oversees students working in the Enrichment Centre during class hours
- Supervises one evening per week of Supervised Prep or EC support services
Other Responsibilities
- Commits to the boarding school program. Other tasks such as coaching and supervision in residences are part of the position requirements
- Any other task as required by the Director of Academics
Special Skills or knowledge
- Managerial skills and a pro-active and energetic approach to program development
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, parents and students from diverse backgrounds
- Cultural sensitivity
- Willingness to be flexible with the realities of a busy school schedule
- Familiarity with best practice of IEP development
- Knowledge in current research and diagnostic practice
- IT skills
- Bilingualism (English/French) with excellent written and verbal communication skills is an
asset.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certification as a Learning Strategist or Specialist or relevant combination of education and
experience.
