Posted: 06 August 2018
The Armidale School welcomes young men and women from overseas who have completed their secondary schooling but are yet to finish tertiary studies, to work at the school as a Gap assistant. If you are interested in a position as a ‘Gappie’ at TAS, you should first make yourself familiar with the school via the website. TAS is a regional co-educational boarding and day school with a day Junior School (Transition to Year 5) and boarding and day Middle School (Years 6-8) and Senior School (9-12).
Armidale is Australia’s highest city, located on the New England tablelands about midway between Sydney and Brisbane. Home to Australia’s oldest regional university (the University of New England) it is an important centre of education, with agriculture being the main industry. TAS accepts up to six Gap students at a time, for 12 month period beginning in either late January (for Southern Hemisphere applicants) or July (Northern Hemisphere applicants).
GAP students are offered lodging, all meals (during term time), an allowance, and other benefits including free membership to our indoor swim centre, gymnasium and weights room. Gap duties will involve assisting staff in each of our schools, administration, in our Outdoor Education program, excursions, and sport coaching. Duties vary, on a rotational basis, and Gappies work alongside TAS staff in their roles.
All Gap students are accommodated in their own quarters in a central location in the school, comprising individual lockable bedroom/study, shared bathroom, kitchenette facilities and comfortable lounge room.
You must ensure that you have health insurance for the duration of your stay at TAS. While Gap students coming from the United Kingdom receive reciprocal rights to health insurance in Australia, additional cover is recommended.
