Chittagong Grammar School, Bangladesh
"Chittagong Grammar School draws its students from a community of very orthodox Muslims. Boys were given great latitude but girls were not even encouraged to go to school leave alone to a co-educational one. Now after 23 years and since the introduction of the Round Square Ideals, there has been a remarkable change in the mindset of the Patriarchs of these joint families.
Girls are encouraged to participate in whatever CGS demands of them. We now have girl’s basketball, football and cricket school teams, and overnight adventure camping trips, travel abroad with only a male teacher as chaperone, stay for five days at a stretch in an orphanage and a charity hospital, buy slots at CGS auction to serve the poor, as part of their exposure to the neediest members of the community. This was unheard of earlier.
The Community has seen the change in their children and especially the girls. They have completely bought into the RS IDEALS. After 20 years, these girls and boys are manning banks, hotels, schools, hospitals and are greatly sought after by employers. They are empathetic human beings, committed to uplifting their community. As Head of the Upper School, I am proud to see the influence of RS IDEALS unfolding right in front of me."
