Kurt Hahn prize rules
- A Kurt Hahn prize can only be awarded to a student for something performed whilst he/she is still a member of the school community (including holidays).
- Up to two prizes per year may be awarded and prize winners are chosen from all of the nominations received in a given year by a global awarding panel comprising the Round Square Chairman, Chief Executive, and representatives from cross-section of Round Square schools. Entries must be in by by 31st March 2023. The Kurt Hahn Prize winner will be notified by 12th May and announced publicly on 5th June (Kurt Hahn’s birthday)
- A winning student or group of students will receive award and certificate to be presented at the Round Square International Conference in the year in which their prize was awarded.
- An individual prize winner will be invited to attend the RSIC with their travel paid by the Salem Alumni and their delegate fee by the Round Square International Conference. In the event that a prize is awarded to a group, or two prizes are awarded, the contribution from the Salem Alumni for travel will be shared equally between the winners. Certificates will be available for nominations received and considered worthy of recognition in this way. If no suitable candidate is nominated in a given year no prize will be awarded that year.
- Where the prize is awarded to a group of students from within a Round Square School, one member of the group will receive the prize on behalf of the group, though the group as a whole will be recognised on the Kurt Hahn Prize Boards displayed in Round Square schools throughout the world (The original Honour Board being located at Salem presented by the Altsalemer Vereinigung.)
- In the case of split conferences, the winner(s) will attend the conference to which their school has been allocated.
- Nominations can be made via a nomination form that can be downloaded from the Round Square website.
- An unsuccessful nomination maybe resubmitted on only one further occasion.
- Nominations may be considered up to two years after the event.
- Each nomination must be made through the Head of a Global Member or Candidate Round Square School although it might originate from a fellow student or staff of the school.
- Communication to the successful candidate(s) will be made by the Chief Executive via the Head and Rep of the School the student attends. All unsuccessful nominees will be notified in the same way.
