Andrew Matthews

Round Square is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew Matthews as Round Square Schools’ Support Director – Europe and the Mediterranean.

Currently Deputy Head (Academic) at Latymer Upper School in England, Andrew’s career spans roles as Teacher, Head of Department and Deputy Head in both state (government) and private schools, as well as a stint at the Department for the Environment in Westminster.

Andrew brought Latymer Upper School to Round Square in 2015 and has been responsible for the development of the academic education strategy at the school for over ten years. During this time Andrew has developed and championed an innovative learning strategy combining the development of students’ character alongside academic achievement with dedicated time for teacher learning, coaching and action research: An approach that was cited when the school was recently named by the Times Education Supplement as Independent Secondary School of the Year.

Andrew has built a successful career on his heartfelt belief that education should be a holistic learning experience for both pupils and faculty, and this is evident in his commitment to the Round Square IDEALS and broader philosophy. In recent years, Andrew has presented at RS Discovery Framework workshops, and has designed and implemented collaborative learning initiatives with other Round Square Schools around the world. This, combined with extensive experience developing and implementing successful learning strategies within his own school, will undoubtedly  be a source of significant support and guidance to all RS schools within Europe and the Mediterranean.

Andrew will take up this new post on 1st January 2019. His appointment is one of six new Schools’ Support Director roles that are being introduced worldwide as the position of Regional Support Manager comes to the end of its three-year term. One more appointment will be announced in the coming weeks.

Our sincere thanks go to our outgoing Regional Support Manager for Europe and the Mediterranean, Sandy Watt, who will be moving into the global role of RS Membership Secretary in July 2018. We know that you will join us in thanking Sandy for her significant contributions in developing strong and supportive relationships within the Region over the past three years. We look forward to continuing to work with her in her new role.
