Mayo College, Ajmer (India) Awards King Constantine Medal to Harsh Bhutra

Mayo College was proud to award Harsh Bhutra the King Constantine Medal for the academic year of 2021- 2022 for being an active leader of service within his community.

Harsh has taken part in numerous school service activities. As part of Mayo College’s ‘Science on Wheels’ service project, Harsh put together resources for a variety of science experiments ready to help teach practical science to children in local village schools. He has prepared material for 40 schools with 10 experiments in each kit.

Harsh also volunteers at the school’s organic farm, where students grow their own crops including tomatoes, cauliflowers etc. They are responsible for planting, maintaining, and harvesting the crops.

Harsh also aided with the school’s cleanliness drive to reduce the use of single waste plastics. He says, “Our school group has distributed dustbins to the street vendors and local shopkeepers to collect waste and not to throw it on the street. We prepared posters and ran on different streets of our city to spread awareness to reduce the use of plastic. It was not a run rather a walk to spread the message to the public.”

He helped to set up a library for the residents of ‘Jai Ambey Seva Samiti Ajmer’, a local home for the elderly. He says, “Our school used to visit this old age home. We would play music, read books, and do skits for the residents. We realized the need for a library, so we looped in our school librarian and discussed with our principal to set up a library. And we were successful in doing so.”

Every year on the 2nd of October, students at Mayo College organise a community lunch for daily wage workers in celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. Harsh enthusiastically helped with the coordination of the last event and worked with his peers to serve food and provide musical entertainment for the guests.

Around his school’s town, Harsh has performed street plays to help raise awareness around a variety of social issues including gender equality, environmentalism, and sustainability. And volunteers at a school reading stories to children and performing puppet shows.

“His consistent participation in Mayo College’s community and service initiatives makes him a role model for his peers. He has a truly compassionate heart and the ability to recognise the importance of helping others,” says RS Rep Ritu Nautiyal “and for this reason, we are very proud to have awarded him the prestigious medal.”

Harsh is set to Graduate from Mayo college in April 2022, where he will go on to join the family business. “I have a plan to provide skillset to village children so that they can earn their livelihood and make careers.”
