Residential Boarding Assistant, Tanzania

Posted: 07 August 2018

St Constantine’s International School is seeking female Residential Boarding Assistants (RBAs) to help in the running of our boarding house. This position may be of interest to those who have recently finished school or university and are seeking fresh inspiration.

Originally founded in 1952 by the Hellenic Foundation of Tanzania, we have an enviable location on the doorstep of Arusha National Park, at the foot of Mount Meru, and within striking distance of Kilimanjaro. Arusha itself is the centre of northern Tanzania’s renowned safari industry. Our lush and mature 35-acre grounds include a 25m swimming pool, two football pitches, a rugby pitch, cricket nets, a gym, and tennis, volleyball and basketball courts. We are home to 700 students from Reception to A-level. With some of the best facilities in Tanzania, we are justifiably proud of our sporting reputation, and see this as a suitable counterbalance to our strong academic side. Given our location, we are also seeking to grow our outdoor education capabilities too, in keeping with our position as the first Round Square School in Tanzania. This year we hosted a Round Square regional conference.

Our boarding house provides a home to around 85 students; half boys, half girls. Around a quarter of that number are in primary. RBA duties include getting students up and breakfasted in the morning, and making sure they are presentable when leaving for school. At the other end of the day, you would help with dinner supervision and settling in at night. In the daytime, RBAs are typically free to pursue their own agenda, but it is hoped that they would want to immerse themselves in the life of the school. This might be assisting in PE lessons, helping out with primary, or getting involved in the arts. You will also be expected to contribute to our extracurricular program, ranging from sports coaching to putting on the school play.

Whatever your passion, you can pursue it here.

The position would suit someone potentially looking at a teaching career in the future, but is by no means limited to this. You must love being around children, and will be something of a big brother/sister figure. At the weekends, you are expected to get fully involved with the trips and activities we put on for the boarding students, helping the house parents to keep them entertained. Minimum age for applicants is 18 years old.

In return, we offer accommodation within the boarding house in an en suite room, and all term time meals. We provide a living allowance of US$200 a month, rising to US $250 in the last term (if you have worked the previous two terms). We also provide a flight allowance at the completion of the academic year.

We are looking for candidates to start on the 23rd of August 2018, until the end of the academic year.

Interested applicants should provide a CV and covering letter to the Head of Boarding, noelfitzpatrick@scis.sc.tz. Further information on the School can be found on our website, www.scis.sc.tz. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries.
