Posted: 11 November 2021

Regents International School Pattaya presented Lucas Rimini with the King Constantine Medal during this year’s graduation ceremony in recognition of his dedication to his studies and for helping others.

Having moved from Tuscany to Thailand Lucas joined Regents in 2014 as a Year 7 EAL student with no English. Within two short years he had progressed to set 1 in English and continually impressed his teachers with his attitude and motivation. It was not long before Lucas started to take on leadership roles within the school and share his passion for learning.

Inspired by his own teachers, Lucas set up a ‘Night School’ program where he taught Mathematics and Chemistry to students, helping them prepare for their approaching IGCSEs. “I created materials and activities to share with my class and I was excited to be covering subjects that I already had a passion for,” explains Lucas “I gave lessons twice a week after school … sharing as much as I could.” His classes then grew to cover Mathematics and Chemistry for years 5, 7 and 9. “I am truly enjoying the process of teaching and helping to spread new ideas.”

Lucas joined the Student Guild as the Leadership Pillar Leader. His function was to help students become better leaders. “The position helped me develop into a more confident speaker, and I took up the task of hosting whole school assemblies on two occasions with the help from the Head Boy and Head Girl. They made speaking in front of hundreds of people look easy”.

Reflecting on his education Lucas expresses; “I really do think that because of these experiences I am better prepared for my future, and that the positions and roles that I took up in my time at Regents have helped me understand the responsibility that comes with a position, and I am grateful for having experienced this.”

In 2019 Lucas also achieved an incredible set of results for his IGCSE’s, he won the award for the highest mark in Thailand for International GCSE: Mathematics, Business and Spanish.

As a Regents Alumni who has graduated with the top 2% IB results in the world and with IGCSE results for the best in Thailand in three different subject areas and as a non-native English speaker, Lucas is a shining success and Regents is proud to be part of his learning journey!

“Lucas represents everything we could wish for in a Round Square student, he is globally minded, compassionate for others, responsible and self-aware.” Says a delighted Amos Turner-Wardell, Regents’ Head of Secondary.

On receiving the award, Lucas said “I am extremely thankful for having received the King Constantine Medal. I owe this achievement to so many people, from friends, to teachers, to parents, that without their support I would not have had the opportunity to join so many activities and events.”

Lucas has earned a place at the prestigious University of British Columbia (UBC) to read Engineering and would like to major in Chemical Engineering.
