The International School of Tanganyika is an independent, private, not-for-profit day school located on two campuses in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. IST offers rigorous academic programmes coupled with a wide range of extra-curricular activities serving students from age 3 to Grade 12.
International school of Tanganyika
IST students represent more than sixty countries and they learn to respect each other and appreciate the diversity of cultures, languages, religious traditions, and nationalities. Activities ranging from community service to IST’s Extended Studies Program encourage students to gain experience beyond the campus walls.
Students have the opportunity to participate in activities such as hiking through Tanzania’s crater highlands as well as attempting to summit the highest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. Students have also initiated on campus environmental awareness by leading initiatives such as a recycling programme. Service learning and leadership are important components of the IST experience.
What being a RS school means to us
We want a certain kind of student to graduate from IST: the kind of student who, in the struggle to establish a personal set of values, will be laying the foundation upon which international-mindedness will develop and flourish. The attributes of such a student are also mirrored in the fundamentals of Round Square and help to provide for learning that is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant as well as committing to global issues that transcend the confines of traditional subjects.
