Sunshine Montessori School (SMS) is a co-educational Montessori school for children ages 18 months through Grade 8. Founded in 1986, SMS is a place of joyful and active learning where children develop a love of learning. We provide a warm and nurturing environment where students can realize their potential by igniting their natural curiosity for discovery, challenge and academic success.
The IDEALS in our school
The Montessori philosophy of fostering a curiosity for learning, freeing a child’s potential, providing an environment for exploration, mixed-age groupings and hands-on learning, flow naturally into the Round Square IDEALS. Through beginning of day classroom meetings which discuss individual and collective goals, older students mentoring younger students, Montessori Model UN, canoeing, horseback riding, food drives, bake sales, collaboration with a community school to make food baskets at Christmas, and environmental awareness, the school has a strong basis for expanding the Round Square IDEALS. With the pillars in place, we can continue to develop global citizens and promote citizenship education.
What being a Round Square school means to us
Being part of Round Square provides our small school with an inter-connectedness which will have a positive growth impact on our students and teachers. It will provide broad learning experiences through travel, service, and collaboration with other schools. Through access to the Round Square site and communication and interaction with other schools, we believe we can grow our programmes and expand our vision by participating and learning through the experience of students and educators throughout the world.
