The IDEALS in our school

At The Southport School, the 6 pillars of Round Square provide a framework and scaffold for all the programs we have on offer. Each year in the last week of Term 3, a week of school time is dedicated to highlighting the IDEALS. At this time, our Year 7 students experience opportunities for Environmental awareness, leadership and Adventure on their annual Outdoor Education camp. Our Year 8s and Year 9s along with a number of older students within the tri-service cadet program are similarly exposed to these pillars on the annual cadet camps while our senior students participate in a variety of service projects at that time. In addition to this concentrated and obvious exposure to the pillars, the IDEALS also form the basis for the Student Leadership Teams, the cosmopolitan and international flavour of the Boarding Houses and the weekly service projects and leadership classes.

What being a Round Square school means to us

We are part of a global community – that is inescapable and exciting. Our young people live in a world of international adventure and multiculturalism. Round Square enables us to embed in our school’s philosophy, the principles of experiential education, international belonging, cultural empathy and service to others at the core of Hahnian educational wisdom. Through Round Square, our students have a platform from which to experience and participate in their local, regional, national and international communities – to develop into the global citizens that will take the planet forward through the 21st Century.
