RSIS Vietnam 2024: Welcome to Mai Chau

Share With

Welcome to the Mai Chau area of Vietnam and our new home for the next eight days, Vien Ve village.

Our four hour drive west of Hanoi has taken us through some amazing agricultural and karst landscape, before heading into the valleys of the Mai Chau area, approximately 50 km from the border with Laos.

After we arrived, we spent some time to visit the sites of the two projects that the students will be working on. The students were introduced to Mr. Bing who is the local chairman of community affairs in the village. Mr. Bing welcomed the students and was hugely grateful for them coming to support the various projects in the village and said that everyone in the village was so pleased they were here.

The students have met the owners of their homestay houses and are now settled in for their first night’s sleep. Tomorrow will be a big day as we head straight to the project site to begin the construction work.

Spirits are high and there is a good sense of community building amongst the students and I look forward to handing the blog responsibilities to them tomorrow.
