RSIS South Africa July 2026: A Day In The Life

Share With

During breakfast we usually like to make coffee or tea in the mornings to help us wake up. After that we sit with our new friends while the group leaders for the day give us competitions such as trivia questions to decide the order of breakfast. It is a fun way to start the day together. Vidur said his favourite part of breakfast was the eggs and bread.

To help out the kitchen staff, each Baraza group takes turns washing the dishes every day. Each group washes dishes at both breakfast and dinner. By doing this we not only help the kitchen staff but also build teamwork skills and give back to our RSIS community.

Every morning before we leave for the worksite, we check that everyone has everything they need for the day. We make sure we have all of our workplace necessities before setting off.

Once we arrive at the worksite, we begin preparing materials. One of our jobs is mixing mortar by combining the sand and concrete together. We also help with assembling the scaffolding, which allows the day’s work to begin.

Throughout the day everyone takes part in different tasks around the site. Working together is important because many of the jobs require cooperation and communication between team members.

At the end of the day, we always make sure to clean up before leaving. It is important to leave the site as clean as possible so that when we come back the next day our tools and materials are ready to use.

Then we are done for the day. We head back for dinner and to play cards.
