Assistance In Action, Round Square Student Committee
Cici Ma from Beijing Concord College of Sino Canada
“The rose is in her hands, the flavor is in mine.” This is an old Chinese saying, and it means that we will also get unexpected rewards when we help others. Current world is a global ensemble, which is said that the interaction between people become more continual, at the same time, the assistance we can get from all parts of the world greatly increases. I am the chairman of Round Square Leadership Council, but what I felt most in Round Square activities is the spirit of assistance. Since I took over this position, I have participated 3 big activities, which impressed me the most.
My first big event was an Indian online conference whose topic was Refuse Classification. It’s a joint issue for all human beings. Thus, when I entered the “meeting room”, I felt the responsibility and how serious this conference was. All members were at the same ages with us, but they served as the presidents and leaders in this conversation. I captured a more mature and confident status on those whom naturally expressed their understanding. That is what today’s teenagers need—-to regard themselves as the host of this shining age, and that is to help, to assist the entire mankind.
Because of the epidemic situation, conference below the line could not be held at time, so the next big activity for me is also an online meeting. It is also held by an Indian school, but the topic is Service in Action. We talked in groups about the service activities we have done and we are going to do. This topic is directly related to service, which we mentioned as assistance. People are becoming indifferent in this fast-developing society, thus, to have the enthusiasm and passion to assist others is a valued value. Round Square made me aware of how assistance is important and what can we the teenagers do.
3 weeks ago, I was involved in the 3rd activity I have mentioned above, which is an implementation of the conference” Service in Action”. We recorded videos of reading poems and articles for those visual-impaired people. Actually, this is the best way of making conversation with those strangers because instead of voice, we delivered love and care to them. We cannot make them see this world, but we can try our best to let them know there is love, not procrastination or anything else in their invisible world.
All the activities I participated in educated me to assist people in need, and what added to my mind is to be life-loving, and kind to this world. For so long time, Round Square gave me a lot. I will continue to take actions to assist others as I have learnt. This is the spirit of Round Square. I love Round Square.
