RSIC2024 Colombia in Numbers
Thank you to everyone who took part in the 56th Round Square International Conference in Colombia and congratulations to our host schools Colegio Anglo Colombiano, Colegio Gran Bretaña, Colegio Los Nogales, Colegio de Inglaterra – The English School and Gimnasio Campestre.
Here is a round-up of the week in numbers:
- 5 host schools with more than 90 student organisers and baraza leaders
- 904 delegates – 662 students and 242 adults
- 48 Baraza groups
- 70+ hours of sunshine
- 570 homestays enjoying the wonderful hospitality of the people of Bogotá
- 180 chicken shed panels constructed to make sheds for six families
- 800+ trees planed
In our craft and cultural workshops, we:
- baked 240 Feijoa cupcakes
- cooked 400+ arepas
- made 72 bell molds
- created 240 matachines masks to ward off bad energy
- worked together on a 10-metre mural as a lasting tribute to the community
In hosting the Conference in Bogotá and Boyacá, our hosts partnered with more than 50 local suppliers and businesses, bringing direct economic benefits to the communities we visited. It’s wonderful to see what can be accomplished in just one week when we all work together in harmony.
Valeria Agudelo Guevara, a Baraza Leader from Colegio Anglo Colombiano, summed up the experience at the Closing Ceremony:
“Just like the theme of this conference, blooming from the past, I believe that each of us will bloom from this experience. We’ve faced challenges, built connections across our differences, and come out stronger. More than the activities, the memories that will remain stuck in my mind and heart are those of the people I’ve met. We’ve shared our cultures, our stories, and our dreams, and in doing so, we’ve created something truly special: genuine connections that transcend borders and cultural differences.”
