Spins and leaps surrounded me as I glided across the stage. Bubbles of joy filled my head because of the news I heard. It’s time for my end of year recital. As soon as I finish dance rehearsals, I ran into the school hall. Nerves filled my stomach as I ran towards the list. When I arrived there I saw a group of girls laughing as I drew my finger down the page. I saw my name and that’s when I knew why the girls were waiting, just so they could make fun of me and tell me why I’m a horrible dancer. My face was covered in a frown that afternoon, but if there was any chance of me performing I knew I would have to stay in this group.

At exactly 4 pm I had rehearsals again, so I walked in the room. I knew I had no time to waste. As we hit the dance floor I suggested some formations, but as I was speaking one of the girls snapped her fingers right in my face just to shut my voice out. I knew that was rude and impolite but all they did was freeze and look the other way, because I’ve always been a shy girl that I only dance could express my feelings. After rehearsals I went into my classroom and noticed that it was pastoral care. I took my seat and listened, as two girls handed out sheets. On that piece of paper I saw 12 heroes, colourful and individual.

As I learnt more and more about the heroes of discovery the day finally came, recital day. Every year backstage was always chaotic, costumes on the floor and make up on the mirrors. But I didn’t mind because my head was spinning around and around. I had big thoughts on my mind. What if I mess up? What if I forget the steps and I freeze in the centre of the stage? My tummy had butterflies, my feet had pins and needles. Ten minutes before dancing. My dance group showed up. I was so not happy to see them. It was a bit confusing because why would they want to see me, I had to stay conscious of them. As I left to get my water bottle, they scrubbed soap on my ballet shoes, so when I went to put them on I was slipping and sliding towards the stage about to perform. As we took our places and the music started playing I spun and jumped, but fell as I went over to the other side of the stage warm tears ran down my face. I was really upset.

As I ran off the stage a glow of light reflected off the stage and on the curtains, as I thought about what it could be a person, colourful and bright appeared just like the heroes I learnt about in pastoral care. Step-by-step she came closer to me, so I asked what is your name she questioned. ‘My name is Fearless Francis, the sidekick of Courageous Colette.’ My face in shock wondering how she got here and why she came,  but before I could ask by a snap of a finger I was transported to another world. A peaceful and calm place where on the top of a hill led to a pretty and small cottage. On the door was a sign saying courageous cottage. As I peaked through the door there she was sitting on a chair, her blue hair glowing and her eyes sparkling. Once she saw me, she offered me a seat and gave me a chance to explain what had happened. After that she gave me new ballet shoes that have the ability to make me jump higher than anyone else. As I was about to leave, she gave me some tricks and tips to be more courageous and fearless. Once I heard these inspirational words I left with nothing but a smile and new ballet shoes!

When I got back to the recital, I asked to do a solo. Of course it’s a risk but as they taught me, I need to take risk and believe in myself. As I took to the stage to dance my solo I leapt higher than 100 frogs could, so from now on I’m going to be a brave and confident girl whatever anyone says.
