Second Prize: 15-18
Inventive Idris was known for his creative imagination and his ability to come up with innovations. He was renowned all over the world as a very eccentric savior. He not only saved multiple factories from burning down but also saved human lives! What was unfortunate though, was that all the credit was given to Idris but not to Rhea. Every superhero has his or her sidekick and so does Idris. Resourceful Rhea was the master of adaptive engineering. She was a quick thinker, was always an encouraging soul and was a problem solver! She had silky, straight brown hair which were made up into a sleek bun, hinting at how sorted she was in the skills that she acquired. She always wore big round blue goggles on her head so that when needed she could be protected from the crazy inventions of Idris. Rhea also wore a purple jacket with several pockets filled with tools, gadgets and other useful objects.
Although, Inventive Idris was known for saving the world but who saved Idris from his fanatical inventions? Of course, it was Resourceful Rhea! Remember the story about Idris saving factories from burning down? Not only did Rhea play a major role in helping him but she saved him from the torrid fire. Idris had invented a low-frequency sound wave device to extinguish the fire. It was a great invention but he started the device with a frequency that made the flames flicker but not go out. While he was in the middle of this chaos, Rhea realized that a piece of wood from the roof was about to fall on Idris and so within in her jacket to make a long stick to hold the wood in place. Moreover, she added more thought to Idris’s device and figured that a lower frequency will make the flames go out. This proves how every superhero needs their sidekick to complement their special ability to help save the day just like Rhea helped Idris save the day!
Once, Inventive Idris got himself into a life-threatening situation that, if he could not get out of it would’ve been a catastrophe for the 8 billion people on this earth! All 8 billion people on this earth would have turned into stone, if not for Resourceful Rhea’s quick thinking! Medusa, the creature with living snakes on her head instead of hair. Anyone who looked directly into her eyes would turn into stone! Inventive Idris didn’t know Greek mythology was real until one of the Gorgon sisters crossed his path! One sunday morning he heard on the news that a petrifiying looking woman has been turning people into stone by nothing but only a glance into their eyes in central park, NewYork! Therefore, he rushed to the park to save the day.
He ran as fast as he could and when he reached, he realised that close to 100 people had turned to stone! He couldn’t believe what he had seen. As soon as he stepped onto the lush green grass of the park, the snakes on Medusa’s head rose with intrigue and turned to look at Idris. Idris froze and luckily did so at the right time as Medusa was staring right at him to turn him into stone! Instinctively, Idris ran and hid behind some bushes. Meanwhile, Resourceful Rhea was running late to fight Medusa along with Idris. She chose to ride in her car to come to the park which proved to be a dull-witted decision in a city such as NewYork. She was stuck in traffic for almost 20 minutes! Inventive Idris didn’t wait for Rhea and tried to outsmart Medusa by hiding behind the bushes and catching upto her by peaking through them. Unfortunately, he stepped onto a crisp autumn leaf which the snakes heard. Right then, Medusa turned and tried to follow in the direction where the snakes were pointing their necks at. Idris started running and he ran and ran till he tripped over a log of wood and fell on his knees face down on the ground. This was perfect time for Medusa to catch up to him. She then grabbed him by his collar and stared into his soul with her big silver-grey eyes.
Luckily Idris kept his eyes shut and just in time, Rhea stepped in to save Idris! She took out a rope from her purple tool jacket and threw it around Medusa’s head. Fortunately, the snakes didn’t hear Rhea coming. She pulled her neck towards her, unbalancing her which loosened her grip on Idris and so he let himself go. Rhea ran towards Idris as fast as she could, and hid both themselves under an invisibility cloak! Hence, now ever enraged Medusa couldn’t see them. They planned how to take out Medusa when they were under the cloak. Idris had an idea to look through a mirror to watch where Medusa was going without actually looking at her. While Idris was confident about this idea, Rhea was skeptical. Idris took out a shard of glass that he acquired from one of his previous adventures and transformed it into a mirror by using a mirror-effect spray from Rhea’s tool jacket.
As he was using it to navigate where Medusa was going, the sunshine reflected the mirror and the reflection caught her eye! So she turned back and sneaked on Rhea and Idris from behind. As she grabbed Idris, he closed his eyes shut and Rhea managed to escape just in time! Knowing Medusa’s gaze turns people to stone, Rhea realized that directly looking at her is a death sentence. But Rhea was no stranger to thinking outside the box. Instead of facing Medusa head on, she used reflective surfaces, like polished shields she found in her tool jacked and mirrors such as the one Idris invented through a shard of glass, to defeat Medusa. By carefully positioning the mirrors around her, Rhea captured Medusa in the labyrinth of her own reflection, avoiding her gaze while simultaneously tracking her movements. Finally, Rhea managed to find a way to position the mirrors just right, she tricked Medusa into looking at her own reflection and so she froze to stone! Not only did Rhea manage to save Idris but she used her resourcefulness and quick and adaptive thinking to her advantage and defeated a Greek Myth!
