Calling all creative minds and budding storytellers! Round Square invites students and staff from RS member schools to unleash their imagination in a Story Writing Competition and creation of a photo gallery to celebrate World Book Day and World Book and Copyright Day 2025.
Imagine a Sidekick for one of the RS Heroes and tell their tale!
Every superhero needs a sidekick, including the Round Square Heroes of Discovery. We’d love to hear about the characters or creatures your students imagine would be companions to our RS Heroes.
To enter the competition, we invite your students to imagine a sidekick for one of the RS Heroes, give them a name, describe their characteristics, and write a short story about them. The story should include how they help their RS Hero friend with an aspect of their particular discovery.
There will be three age ranges for the competition: Under 11s, ages 11-14 and ages 15-18. Winners in each category will receive certificates and book vouchers, and their stories will be featured on the Round Square Web Site.
There is no specific word limit but stories should be concise and impactful. We recommend up to 500 words for ages 11 and under, and up to 1000 words for over 11s. Illustrations to accompany the story are very welcome, but not essential.
Bring the Heroes to Life by dressing up and send us a photo!
Gather your friends, classmates, or staff and dress up as the RS Heroes of Discovery to create an International Heroes Photo Gallery. Whether you go solo or team up as a group, show off your best costumes and imaginative interpretations of the RS Heroes of Discovery!
We will be creating a photo gallery of all the photos entered for the competition, which will be shared widely to celebrate and inspire student creativity across the RS community worldwide. There will also be certificates and prizes for the most imaginative costumes and photos.
Submission Guidelines
Stories and photos must be in English and original work – no AI-generated creations, please. All stories submitted to the competition will become Round Square copyright.
To submit a story competition entry or a photo, please complete the relevant form below. Photos should please be high-quality image files (JPEG/PNG). For the story competition, please complete the entry form with school and student name, student age, and attach the story as a pdf file or word document.
The Deadline for all entries is Friday, 11 April 2025.
