Ballarat Grammar is one of regional Australia’s leading co-educational schools with a proud history dating back to 1877 and a flourishing community of over 1,500 students from 6 months to Year 12, including around 250 boarders. With three campuses, an extensive range of first-class facilities and a range of challenging and diverse programs, we provide rich opportunities for our students to learn to thrive.

The IDEALS in our school

At Ballarat Grammar, the last letter comes first: the ethos of SERVICE is at our core. Involving students in many ongoing service projects, from working with disadvantaged youth in nearby Wendouree West to providing fresh water to hill tribes in Thailand. INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING is further fostered by up to forty exchanges each year to schools in eighteen countries.

Ballarat Grammar’s commitment to ENVIRONMENT is expressed most obviously today in thriving Agriculture and Environmental Science programs based at the Mount Rowan farm. Student LEADERSHIP determines environmental priorities, such as green walling and a wind turbine, through consultative processes reflecting DEMOCRACY in action.

What being a Round Square school means to us

Our Round Square membership has been transformational for Ballarat Grammar. Exchange experiences make for lasting international friendships and conferences lead to ongoing connections. The “Noopsi Badge” brought back by a staff member from a South Africa conference led to a project which raised over $300,000 for HIV-positive women and their families. Our eleventh Thai Water project has just been completed. A plaque over the entrance to our Assembly Hall replicates that at Starehe School: “From those to whom much is given will much be required.
