Kilimanjaro Expedition 2026: Trekking to Camp 1 and 2

The group successfully completed their first days on the mountain. The treks were relatively modest, designed to help everyone begin adjusting to the altitude. While many were aware of the effects of being higher up than usual, the group is feeling positive, healthy and in good spirits. The pace has been deliberately slow and steady, embracing the mountain’s famous pole pole approach, which means “slowly, slowly”. So far, everyone is comfortable with the pace and feeling confident about the days ahead.

The weather provided a few surprises. Temperatures were warmer than many had expected during the day, but conditions changed quickly later on.The evening was spent relaxing together over mugs of Milo and a few competitive games of cards. There was plenty of laughter around camp as the group reflected on the first days and looked ahead to the challenge still to come.

Everyone enjoyed what was, for many, the best nights’ sleep they have had. The tents were warm and cosy, making for comfortable nights on the mountain. As you will see from the videos, the group continues to bond quickly and there is a strong sense of camaraderie between them all.

Today, the team treks to Upper Shira Camp at an elevation of 3,500 metres. As they gain height, they can expect to see spectacular views of Kibo and the Northern Ice Fields.

Once they arrive at camp, after some lunch, they will take part in acclimatisation hike. By climbing a little higher before returning to camp, participants give their bodies more time to adjust to the altitude, an important part of preparing for the days ahead.
