Having walked through the rainforest on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro and reaching Big Tree Camp, the team spent their first night on Africa’s highest mountain surrounded by towering trees and wildlife, including blue and Colobus monkeys moving through the forest canopy.
Today, the landscape changes dramatically as the group climbs out of the rainforest zone and onto the Lower Shira Plateau at around 3,500m above sea level. The trek is expected to take approximately four hours and will give participants time to settle into the rhythm of life on the mountain: walking, acclimatising, eating well, staying hydrated and supporting one another as they continue their journey.
The team is currently travelling through a remote section of Kilimanjaro with little or no connectivity, so there is a delay in receiving photos and updates from the mountain. A short video has reached us today, which we’re pleased to share below. We’ll post more updates as they come through.
