RSIS India 2025: Week One Progress (Updated)

Good morning/evening for the lovely families at home! Today was our last full construction day at the site. But not just any day, because today marked half way through the project! Our friendships are flourishing and it’s crazy how close we managed to get within a few days.

We woke up to our last opportunity for a yoga class, unfortunately with a low turnout (can’t say I’m one of the ones who slept in), and had yet another wonderful breakfast at the lodge. We got ourselves ready and headed off to the construction site.

As has been happening over the past few days, the bus ride over to the site is filled with socialising with our peers and awesome bonding experience. Despite only being 10 minutes long, it provides an immaculate environment for interacting with our mates. Once we got to the site, we set our goals for the day. The downstairs gang led by Emma and Hizei, continued filling the ground floor while the upstairs group headed by Vashisht and Dhairya laid the bricks, plastered the walls and set the layout for the windows.

Being in the scorching hot sun got everybodies spirits low but communal singing from both parties lifted them right back up. With hit songs like ‘Shape of you’ and Fireworks (my personal fav) we invigorated ourselves and got right back into our mojo. We were subsequently able to achieve both our aims by the end of the day and have more than enough time to clean up after ourselves.

As you read this I and the rest of the crew are celebrating the amazing work we’ve been able to accomplish in the crunched time we’ve had. It has been an extremely fulfilling experience for the lot of us as we have learnt a lot more about each other and more importantly about ourselves.

We closed the day off with a short Baraza session before moving to an hour and a half of free time to talk around the fire with our newfound friends or perfect our pottery skills in the crafts section. It was a wonderful start to the day and an even more stupendous end to it. Thank you for reading this blog that took painstakingly long to write (sorry Ben). I hope you have a great day today and a better one tomorrow.

Lots of love, Anjali & Craig
