It was the first full day of our Round Square service project, where most students arrived in the heart of South Africa – Johannesburg.
Many of us were quite jet lagged from the times zone differences and the “no jet lag pills” that never really seem to work. After a big English breakfast at around 7am it was time to head off to Tiger Kloof.
We were spilt into three different buses so that we could socialise without the security of our phones. Our ride was supposed to be 5 hours, with an eta of 3:30pm, but we ended up arriving a whole 2 hours later at 5:30pm. Most of the time was lost to a delicious lunch at Spurs. Their chicken burgers were really good.
Tiger Kloof was extremely welcoming, with students cheering and a powerful speech from the school’s head master. After another delightful meal and free time to get to know our roommates, we explored the open campus which turned out to be very large. This has been an exhilarating first day and we are very excited for the days to come.
