RSIS South Africa 2025: Day 6

Share With

Today, we started out with breakfast before splitting into two groups: one going to the bee farm, and the other stayed at the crèche. At the bee farm the group, learned about bee keeping, tasted honey and did some carpentry and painting. Half of the group was sent back to the crèche at lunch time, to help finish the plastering of the walls.

At the crèche we worked on plastering the walls, finishing the water pipe and repurposing a locker into a multi-storage rabbit cage with a ramp. The rabbit cage will first be finished later on in the week, as we need to do some wood work at the bee farm in the following days. Some of the group worked on picking up trash, in order to improve the surrounding environment, as well as build a chicken and rabbit coop next to the garden.

At the end of the day, after dinner everyone gathered in the dining hall and did an art project. This was to learn about Ndebele. An important historical art form, which can be found in South Africa. This art form was seen when Ndebele lost to the British in a fight, and in order to express themselves created this art form. Using bright colours and shapes to show their houses, clothes and surroundings, which was explained to us by the head of the Tiger Kloof school, Louise Fouche.

Everybody enjoyed the day, as we could finally start to see our hard work pay off. Seeing the walls come together and branching out to the surrounding landscaping, made us feel like we were making significant progress. Furthermore, the art work at the end of the day, helped us all, feel more connected and into down from a hard day of work.

We have had a really good but long day and we are tired.

Signing off and have a good sleep.
