RSIS South Africa July 2026: Nelson Mandela Day

Share With

After several days of hands-on work at the Project Site, participants took a break from their usual activities for a day focused on reflection and discussion.

The programme began with a presentation from Louise Fouche, COO of host school Tiger Kloof Educational Institution, to mark Nelson Mandela Day. Drawing on Mandela’s life and legacy, Louise encouraged students to consider the values of respect, equality and democratic participation, and the role these play in building stronger communities.

Following the presentation, students were invited to reflect on what respect and Democracy mean to them.

Working individually and in small groups, students explored the different ways these values are expressed in their schools, families and communities.

The session provided an opportunity to step back from the practical work of the project and consider the wider values that underpin change.
