RSIS South Africa July 2026: SOWETO

Share With

The Project Team spent their final day in Soweto, where they heard from human rights activist and historian Letlhage Mochadibane about the 1976 Soweton uprising.

Through his presentation, the students learned how thousands of young people protested against apartheid-era education policies and the vital role they played in South Africa’s fight for freedom and equality. Hearing these stories in Soweto itself brought history to life, prompting reflection on the power of youth voice, courage and collaboration.

It was a thought provoking end to the trip. Now the team prepare to say their goodbyes as they head home.
