Armbrae Academy is a coeducational day school with more than 350 students from diverse backgrounds, academic excellence is at the core of our programming, while we intentionally focus on character education, community service, athletics, and other pursuits that encourage children to consider their role in the wider world. School belongingness is a hallmark of the Armbrae experience, and our updated motto – Be Kind | Work Hard – underpins everything we do.
Armbrae is a close-knit educational community that prepares students to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers and engaged citizens. Our integrated Preschool to Grade 12 environment promotes community, belonging, and excellence through a rigorous academic program, and a best-in-class co-curricular programming.
The Ideals in our school
Armbrae integrates the IDEALS across all programming, with the strongest emphasis on Leadership (ranked 1) and Service (ranked 2) . Leadership opportunities are continually evolving and include the Prefect Council, Middle School Council, and new roles such as Lower School Mentors, supported by a dedicated Grade 9 Leadership Course. Service Learning is compulsory for students in Grades 6–12, who complete between 6 – 12 hours annually, with activities tracked and reviewed by staff. Armbrae also develops real-life leadership skills through participation in the Amazing Shake for all students in Grades 5–8. Democracy (ranked 3) is encouraged through quarterly advisor check-ins, student participation in mock elections, and the national and international success of Junior and Senior Debaters. Environmental Stewardship (ranked 4) is supported through recycling and composting initiatives and student-led groups such as Eco-Club. Adventure (ranked 5) includes annual overnight camps, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and challenging co-curricular programs. International Understanding (ranked 6) is fostered through cultural celebrations and targeted support for diverse learners.
What being a Round Square school means to us
Armbrae Academy is seeking to expand its community’s access to alternative perspectives by accessing a global network of learners, teachers and school leaders. The school’s decision to apply is not about reinventing itself, as its core mission to “empower each child to pursue personal growth and excellence” already aligns with Kurt Hahn’s philosophy, “Plus est en vous.” Armbrae anticipates that membership will increase international exposure for students, foster collaboration with peers globally, and provide more opportunities for students to connect with others who share their interests, which can be challenging in a small school setting. Ultimately, Armbrae seeks to gain support and professional development through this new affiliation.
