The IDEALS in our school

Hotchkiss offers a dynamic, rigorous, and student-centered education in a residential, academic setting in the northwest corner of Connecticut. Our 600 students can choose from over 200 small, discussion-based classes, and many are drawn to Hotchkiss by the strong programs in Environmental Stewardship and Global Citizenship. Some fifty countries are represented by our students, staff, and faculty, and the voice of all three groups is present in decisions. Students have myriad opportunities to take on leading roles in student government, our co-curricular program, and in the dormitories. Finally, Hotchkiss students have a strong desire to make a positive impact on their own communities and those farther away, and are engaged in a range of service activities.

What being a Round Square school means to us

Round Square has not only connected us into a global network of  schools and expanded our possibilities for exchange, but has given us a lens through which to evaluate our program. All six of the IDEALS are implicit in our Mission Statement, and by examining what we actually do as a school through the IDEALS framework, we can see how well we are achieving our goals.
