The Diocesan School for Girls, Makhanda

South Africa

  • Age range: 5-18
  • Type: Day and boarding school
  • Gender: Girls school

The Diocesan School for Girls is one of the oldest girls’ boarding schools in South Africa, rich in tradition, yet with a modern, forward thinking ethos.

Our beautiful Eastern Cape location and initiatives such as our co-instructional learning partnership with St Andrews College, our extensive outdoor education curriculum and dedicated facility, and our integrated wellness programme, goes to show that our academics, culture, sports, and spirituality are only part of what makes us unique.

Academic excellence remains at the core of our school philosophy, offering the option of writing the final exams in either the South African IEB Matric or Cambridge International A Levels. However, what truly sets us apart and is the heartbeat of our school, is our people, the sisterhood “Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu”. Our community is incredibly diverse and all-embracing – with girls joining us from all across the country, the continent and globe, forming life connections which transcend cultural, language, geographical and social differences.

DSG remains a centre of excellence – producing an alumnae who are independent critical thinkers, thought leaders and decision makers, who are responsible and compassionate global citizens with a life-long love of learning. Above all, we hope that the warmth of the DSG culture instills in our young women, the importance of being unashamedly their authentic selves as they navigate their way through ‘life after school’.
