Science Subject Specialist – Chemistry

Students sit Cambridge Checkpoint Tests at the end of Year 9 in English or ESL, Mathematics, Science and Global Perspectives. At the end of Year 11, they sit Cambridge IGCSE exams, our first cohort sitting their exams in Spring and Summer, 2026.

In September, 2026 we will welcome our first cohort into Year 12; we are currently in the rigorous process of IB accreditation. We will offer the IB Diploma to all students in our first ever Year 12, commencing September, 2026.
The school already has an excellent record of feeding pupils into top European and British independent schools including Eton, Thomas’s Battersea, Westminster, Magdalen College, St Mary’s Ascot and James Allen’s Girls School, and continues to attract high calibre British and international families.

Our ethos is grounded in providing a safe, caring, respectful, tolerant and disciplined environment where high standards prevail in all areas of school life. The school has approximately 300 pupils and a teaching staff of 46.

The school is seeking an experienced Secondary Science Teacher with a specialization Chemistry up to Sixth Form (Key Stage 5), who has taught either in the UK, in a UK international school or both. The ideal candidate will teach Chemistry and General Science at BJAB and will collaborate with other subject specialist teachers as required. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to undertake a pastoral role in the school, for example as a tutor, and to contribute to the school’s co-curriculum. This role also encompasses curriculum development for our expanding secondary school as we grow organically year by year up to Year 13, with our first Year 13 leavers set to gain their IB Diploma in the summer of 2028.

Successful candidates must have the following:

  • An excellent knowledge of UK education and the National Curriculum of England.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Teaching experience of at least 3 years in a British school (preferred) or a British international school or both.
  • Fluent mastery level of English (written and spoken).
  • The right to work in Belgium and/or eligibility for sponsorship under a Belgian work visa programme.

The following experience is highly desirable:

  • Teaching experience in Key Stage 4 or at IGCSE level in a British school or a British international school.
  • Teaching experience in Key Stage 5 or at A level / IB Diploma level in a British school or a British international school.
  • Willingness to undertake IB Diploma training (funded by the school) in teaching Chemistry, if not already trained.
  • Ability to teach an additional subject.
  • The ability to work as a team-player and to be flexible are pre-requisites for this role.
