In June, Windermere School, hosted a Round Square Conference centred around Environmentalism and Kindness. Here are their thoughts on the experience:
What a magical weekend it was at Windermere School! We had the immense honour of hosting our very own Round Square Conference, centred around two powerful themes: Environmentalism and Kindness. It was a gathering of hearts, minds, and cultures, as we welcomed students from around the globe—Millwood School (USA), Fredrikshov (Sweden), Chittagong Grammar School & CGS NC (Bangladesh), and St George’s (Namibia).
From the very start, the energy was electric. Our opening ceremony set the tone for the weekend, with moving words from keynote speaker Nahla Summers, whose message about kindness as a force for change resonated deeply with us all. The vibrant welcome dance by St George’s from Namibia was a breathtaking expression of unity and culture that will stay in our memories forever.
Throughout the weekend, we explored what it means to care deeply—for our planet, for one another, and for ourselves. We stretched our comfort zones with adventure activities like sailing, canoeing, and even braving a leap into the chilly lake! Workshops and group discussions sparked new ideas and lifelong connections, as students from different backgrounds found common ground in shared hopes and values.
We ended the weekend with a hike up Orrest Head, where the stunning views reminded us of the beauty we’re all working to protect. The closing ceremony was both joyful and bittersweet, filled with laughter, reflection, and a few tears as we said goodbye to new friends who now feel like old ones.
