For 125 years, SMLS has been educating young women, and is a premier independent day school for girls from K-12. We believe that in the right environment, girls learning together can develop to become inspired and empowered to take on the challenges of a diverse world. Vast experiential education offers each girl stimulating opportunities to explore and connect with the world beyond our walls.
St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School
SMLS provides many opportunities for students to participate in activities that promote and develop all aspects of the RS IDEALS. Our unique and renowned Global Studies Program oversees international exchanges, service learning, leadership conferences, Cooperative Education placements, Adventure Programs and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Program. All students are expected to earn the Bronze level before graduation and the Silver Level if applying for a Prefect position. Grad students run “Grads Giving Back”; they connect with local community groups to provide assistance, expertise, and companionship. Cyber Seniors is one such initiative; the grads teach seniors how to use technology hardware and programs such as Skype, Facebook and YouTube. The IDEALS are central to learning at SMLS.
What being a RS school means to us
As an RS school, we are connected to 148 other schools globally with similar values, beliefs, and goals. We share a commitment beyond academic excellence and seek opportunities for personal growth and development, courage, and responsibility through our pursuit and development of each of the IDEALS. Our Round Square School network extends the “Real World Learning” taking place, through increased opportunities for collaboration, interactions and shared experiences with other member schools. We are excited about future opportunities for global conferences, international service projects, new exchanges, and greater networking between reps.
