Thomas More College

Gender: Coeducational
Type: Day school
Age range: 4 - 18

Thomas More College first opened its doors in 1962 and has grown from its modest 55 pupils, all boys, to being Kwazulu-Natal’s largest co-educational independent school. Situated on 20 hectares within the gorgeous Kloof Conservancy, the college calls the lovely suburb of Kloof home. While the college focuses on smaller, personal classes, it offers a sizeable campus catering to students right from Grade 000 through to Grade 12. Learning follows three stages of development, from Foundation Phase to Primary School, and finally, to High School.

The IDEALS in our school

As a new Candidate School, we are now consciously implementing the IDEALS at TMC. Besides overseas tours and participation in World Challenge, Internationalism is new and very exciting for us. As a school that celebrates and constantly strives towards a deep sense of belonging for all members of our learning community, along with our whole-school commitment to sustaining our Outstanding Platinum Eco-School status, Democracy and Environmentalism are TMC golden threads. A spirit of servant leadership permeates everything we do at TMC, from our Matric Leadership Councils whose initiatives involve every child in the high school, as does our Community and Social Partnerships programme. Our young people are Tomorrow’s Leaders Today. Leadership is not a badge or designation; it is a state of mind emanating from an innate sense of belonging and purpose. Our young people must seek out opportunities of belonging and purpose for others as they embrace their lives fully once they have left school to become the architects of that which is good.

What being a Round Square school means to us

Round Square is a dynamic opportunity for us to engage deeply and personally with global best practice in spheres that matter most to us in our commitment to mentor Tomorrow’s Leaders Today. Opportunities for both local and international collaboration will expand our children’s and educators’ emotional, political, social and economic perspectives of this highly connected world; a world, however, that remains disparate in our collective humanity and respect for our world. We believe that the Round Square philosophy of celebrating innovative thought, discovery, connectedness, collaboration and a fundamental conviction that our young people are difference makers is completely synonymous with our WHY at Thomas More College – mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders Today.
