Students from St. Clement’s School hosted a Round Square Postcard for students aged 14-18 exploring the theme of kindness. Students asked that each of the participating delegates captured a personal example of giving or receiving an act of kindness, and shares an icon or image(s) that represent acts of kindness prior to the call.
Godspell College in Argentina led a collaborative project for students aged 10-12 to connect students from different countries to create an act of kindness for frontline workers during the pandemic. In groups, the students created an act of kindness based on the different multiple intelligences. Then they uploaded a video on FlipGrid showing their work and presenting themselves to students from other schools.
A few weeks ago we started a new “series” called Community Service Stories that highlights some of the good work that our students have been doing whilst in Distance Learning during the COVID-19 lock-down.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, on March 13th our Head, Peter Rösner and the Senior Management Team made the decision to close the school, two weeks before the Easter holidays and send all students, who were able to do so, home. Seven weeks later, we started the process of bringing years 7-11 back to school as residential students and effectively creating an isolation ‘bubble’ on campus.
The Service-Learning team at Radford College launched a Virtual Rad Greeting Card service (radCREATES) for people, communities and organisations we have an existing relationship with. The aim is to hopefully extend beyond these borders. The idea is for us all to remain meaningfully creative, while harnessing that magic way that art – as well as a simple, positive outreach – can improve and enhance the day, if not lives, of others.
Like many schools in Japan, Keimei Gakuen classrooms are cleaned by the students to build their character to develop them into model citizens. Called ‘Gakko Soji’ (school cleansing), the practice builds a sense of responsibility and teamwork into the students.
Future Ready Days at MacLachlan College are designed to encourage students and teachers to reach beyond the traditional borders of their classrooms, to put academics into action and to take an integrated approach to working collaboratively.
Last year St. George’s Grammar School took part in a collaborative project with a number of other Round Square Schools to develop a series of RSDF lesson plans around the International Day of Happiness. As a school St. George’s Grammar wrote a three-part lesson plan entitled ‘Spread the smiles’, to enable students to explore what makes them and others happy by looking at ‘The Five Love Languages’, and to design a campaign for happiness to uplift the spirit of a community.
